Pumpkin Spice Maple Syrup:

This pumpkin spice maple syrup is the perfect way to spice up (literally) your morning coffee. This simple syrup recipe is made with natural spices that you can pick up at your local grocery store.

the spices in small bowls
  • Pure Maple Syrup - The foundation of this recipe, pure maple syrup, brings a rich, natural sweetness with a touch of earthy flavor. It's a healthier alternative to refined sugar, containing antioxidants and minerals like manganese and zinc.
  • Vanilla Bean - Adding a vanilla bean infuses the syrup with aromatic notes and a hint of creamy indulgence. Vanilla is not only a flavor enhancer but also boasts potential mood-lifting properties. Using a whole vanilla bean rather than vanilla extract gives you a richer flavor and doesn't affect the consistency.
  • Whole Cloves - These little spice powerhouses bring warmth and depth to your syrup, creating a cozy, comforting aroma. They are one of the foundational spices of organic pumpkin spice flavor. Cloves are rich in antioxidants and may have anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Dried Ginger - Dried ginger introduces a subtle zing, balancing the sweetness with a touch of spice. Ginger is renowned for its potential digestive and anti-inflammatory benefits.
  • Cinnamon Sticks - The classic spice, cinnamon sticks, infuse your syrup with that beloved, comforting, and slightly sweet flavor. Cinnamon is a spice associated with potential blood sugar regulation and antioxidant properties.

See the recipe card for quantities.

How To Make This Pumpkin Spice Infused Maple Syrup:

This homemade version of the classic syrup is the perfect easy way to enjoy the flavor of the season.

  1. Begin by adding the cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla bean into the herb pot and seal (you will need to break the cinnamon sticks and vanilla bean in half). Place the herb pot into the infuser.
  2. Pour the pure maple syrup into the oil infuser and set to infuse for 2 ½ hours at 135 degrees.
  3. Once the syrup is done infusing, dispense it into a glass jar and store it in the fridge.

Hint: If you wish to do a large batch, you can add ½ cup more maple syrup and infuse for 3 hours.

Substitutions:

There are a couple of substitutions that can be made to this pumpkin syrup if needed. Here are some of the common ones.

  • Sweetener - You can use any natural liquid sweetener for the base of this simple syrup. Date syrup and agave nectar are other great substitutions. I personally love using organic Vermont maple syrup because it has such a warm flavor that pairs perfectly with the spices.
  • Vanilla Extract - If you can't get your hands on whole vanilla beans, you can use vanilla extract. I recommend using two teaspoons.
  • Fresh Ginger - You can also use fresh ginger in the place of dried ginger. I'd recommend using 1 slice that is about ¼ inch wide.

If you have any questions about a particular substitution not listed make sure to leave a comment and I'll get back to you as quickly as possible!

Pumpkin Spice Maple Syrup Variations:

There are so many ways to customize this pumpkin spice sauce. Here are some of my favorite pumpkin spice variations to make.

  • Nutty Bliss - Add a touch of nuttiness by infusing the syrup with chopped pecans or walnuts. The Levo Oil Infuser can easily handle this addition.
  • Orange Zest - Elevate the flavor with a burst of citrus by adding strips of orange zest during the infusion. The combination of pumpkin spice and citrus is delightful.
  • Pumpkin Purée - You can add actual pumpkin to the oil infuser for the perfect maple pumpkin mixture. Add one tablespoon of real pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) to the oil infuser, not the herb pot.
  • Chai Inspired - Transform your syrup into a chai-spiced delight by adding star anise, green cardamom pods, and black peppercorns to the infusion.

What You Need To Make Homemade Pumpkin Spice Syrup:

This recipe is great because the only equipment you will need is the LEVO oil infuser and a glass jar to store it. This is great because there is minimal mess, and it's not super hands-on.

As always, you can find all my go-to equipment on my Amazon storefront or my affiliate page.

How To Store This Homemade Pumpkin Spice Maple Syrup Recipe:

This is a great recipe to make once and keep on hand for months. It also makes for a perfect, easy gift. I recommend storing this homemade infused syrup in an airtight container, such as a glass jar, in the fridge. When stored properly,y this syrup will stay fresh for a full year.

Top Tip:

You can adjust the spices to your personal taste. For example, if you prefer more cinnamon flavor, you can break up another cinnamon stick or two and mix it into the herb pot.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What can I use Pumpkin Spice Maple Syrup for?

You can use this syrup to flavor your morning coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. It's also fantastic drizzled over pancakes, waffles, French toast, ice cream, or yogurt. Additionally, you can incorporate it into recipes for baking, marinades, and cocktails.

Can I use ground spices instead of whole spices?

While whole spices are typically recommended for infusing, you can use ground spices. Keep in mind that ground spices may infuse more quickly, so monitor the flavor closely during the infusion process.

What's the best way to reheat the syrup if it crystallizes in the fridge?

To dissolve crystals, place the sealed container in a bowl of warm water or microwave it in short, low-power bursts, stirring between each burst until the crystals are gone.

Can I make this syrup without an oil infuser?

Yes, you can create the syrup by simply combining the ingredients and simmering them on the stovetop. Use a fine-mesh strainer to remove the spices when the desired flavor is achieved.
