Ingredients To Make This Vegan Coffee Frappe Recipe:
For the best frappe, I carefully selected a handful of ingredients that create rich chocolatey and hazelnut flavors yet are still good for you. For your convenience, I leave a link to grab some of the ingredients online so you can also take advantage of my discount code, "NATURALVEGAN,” which gives you $10 off a purchase of $49 or more. Here's what you need.
- Cacao Powder: This rich source of antioxidants adds depth and a robust chocolate flavor. Use the raw, organic Wilderness Poets cacao powder. It's pure, unsweetened, and a good deal, especially with my discount code.
- Cold-Brew Coffee: It adds a smooth coffee base that complements the chocolate without overpowering it. You can also make your own homemade cold brew coffee with a cold brew coffee maker.
- Wilderness Poets Hazelnut SPiN Nut Milk Concentrate: Their hazelnut milk has only one ingredient: organic roasted hazelnuts. It's silky and smooth and makes any frappe luscious. The full-bodied hazelnut taste enhances the creamy texture of this delicious vegan coffee drink. And while you're shopping, grab their cashew milk to make my Creamy Vegan Butternut Squash Soup.
- Maple Crystals: It's one of my all-time favorite natural sweetnesses and another great Wilderness Poets product. The rich, deep flavor of the crystals balances the bitterness of the cacao and adds a much healthier sweetness than any other sugar, and has a lower glycemic index.
- Vanilla Bean Powder: This is another staple of mine from Wilderness Poets If you want to instantly enhance any recipe, vanilla bean powder is the perfect way to do so!
- Coconut-Sweetened Cacao Nibs: This healthy chocolate indulgence is added at the end and blended in for a super-rich chocolate experience. These cacao nibs from Wilderness Poets are also delicious, just as a flavorful snack. Be careful, though; they are super addictive. Be sure to use some to make my Viral Dubai Pistachio Chocolate Bar Recipe.
- Chocolate Hazelnut Butter: Although only used as a garnish, it adds a rich and indulgent flavor with every sip. I often use this wonderful Wilderness Poets nut butter to spread on toast—it's simply delicious.
- Dairy-Free Whipped Cream: Tops off the drink with a light, airy finish.
- Ice: It helps to get that smooth, slushy consistency.
See the recipe card for quantities.
How to Make It:
It's so easy and fast that driving to a coffee shop takes you more time.
- Prepare the Cold Brew Base: Blend the first five ingredients until smooth (except ice).
- Add Ice: Achieve a slushy consistency by adding ice to the blender pitcher. Blend again until smooth.
- Mix in Nibs: Include the cacao nibs and blend briefly.
- Garnish the Glass: Swirl chocolate hazelnut butter inside your glasses before pouring the frappe.
- Serve: Top with whipped cream and extra cacao nibs.
Top Tips:
There is not much to making this amazing frappe, but I do have a few tips for you:
- Blending: Always start low and then gradually increase the speed.
- Adding Ice to the Blender: Pulse a few times at first to break the ice into smaller pieces. Then, continue until you get that slushy texture.
Variations & Substitutions:
Here are a few things you can do to change things up or use ingredients you already have on hand.
- Vanilla: Do you want to add some pumpkin flavor to change things up? Then use some of my Pumpkin Spice Infused Maple Syrup instead. If you love hazelnut-flavored drinks, you can use a healthy hazelnut syrup to enhance the hazelnut flavor.
- Coffee Espresso Version: Replace cold brew with the same amount of chilled espresso for a stronger coffee kick.
- Cream Base Option: Mix in a scoop of dairy-free vanilla ice cream for an extra creamy texture. You can use any leftovers of my Vegan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. This is perfect for a hot summer day!
Equipment Needed:
Here's what you need to make this frothy coffee drink.
- High-Powered Blender: A high-speed blender is best for achieving a creamy and smooth texture and pulverizing the ice into a frothy consistency.
- Measuring Spoons and Cups: For precise measurements of the ingredients.
- Tall Glasses: To showcase the beauty of this chocolate hazelnut frappe latte, choose a tall glass for serving.
Storage:
Best enjoyed immediately. However, you can store it in the fridge for up to an hour before the texture begins to change.
There are a few things you can do in advance:
- First, you can make your own homemade cold-brew coffee and store it in the fridge, if preferred.
- Second, make sure to have ice cubes in the freezer.
- Lastly, you can combine all the ingredients except the ice together in a blender and blend until smooth. This will create a creamy cold brew that can be enjoyed as is, stored in the fridge, or blended with ice to create this hazelnut frappe.
Recipe FAQs:
While traditionally served cold, you can adapt it into a hot coffee drink by warming the blended mixture (without ice cubes) and before adding the whipped cream. I recommend warming it over low heat in a saucepan, continuously stirring until hot. It will be thick and creamy similar to hot chocolate!
