This Easy Matcha Smoothie blends the health benefits of matcha and fresh spinach with frozen fruits for a creamy, luscious treat. It's refreshing and gives you an energy boost whether you enjoy it for breakfast as a delicious morning smoothie or pick-me-up drink.

Like my Dragon Fruit Matcha Smoothie Bowl, this matcha green tea smoothie offers a smooth, rich taste of matcha and gives you an extra nutritional boost whenever you need one. It's balanced with natural sweetness from fruits and has a luscious creamy texture due to coconut yogurt and banana.
Anima Mundi is also an apothecary brand that I trust. From their Moringa powder in my Superfood Moringa Smoothie to their Euphoria powder in my Katie Perry Erewhon Smoothie, their products are above any other I have tried, and their ceremonial grade matcha is no exception.
It's a great addition to your healthy morning or afternoon drink, and now, with code NATURALVEGAN you can get 15% off. Let's make this matcha banana smoothie.

Matcha Smoothie Ingredients:
Here's what you need.
- Frozen Mango & Pineapple: These tropical fruits are packed with vitamin C, adding natural sweetness and a refreshing flavor to your matcha smoothie. They also make the smoothie thick without needing ice cubes.
- Banana: It adds creaminess and natural sweetness and blends perfectly with matcha’s earthy notes. Plus, it’s a good source of vitamins like vitamin K and folic acid.
- Matcha Powder: Using Anima Mundi matcha powder (a high quality, ceremonial grade matcha) provides a slower release of caffeine compared to coffee—giving you a steady energy boost without the crash. The health benefits of matcha include increased energy levels, free radical protection, and support for brain health. What's not to love? And for matcha lovers, try my Baked Vegan Matcha Cheesecake.
- Coconut Milk: It adds a creamy texture and a touch of natural sweetness. It’s also a great source of healthy fats, which help keep you full and satisfied.
- Frozen Spinach: Adding a quarter cup of frozen spinach is a simple way to sneak in extra nutrition. Spinach is loaded with vitamin K and folic acid—perfect for a superfood boost without altering too much of the fruity matcha flavor.
- Coconut Yogurt: This creamy topping is the perfect way to serve this smoothie and makes it feel indulgent, like a treat.

How To Make It:
This green smoothie recipe comes together in no time. Here's what to do.
- Blend the Ingredients: In a blender, combine all the ingredients except the yogurt until smooth and creamy. If it’s too thick, add more coconut milk until it’s just right.
- Serve And Enjoy: Spread the coconut yogurt across the bottom of your glass and sprinkle with additional matcha powder. Pour in the creamy smoothie and garnish with extra fresh fruit or shredded coconut.
Top Tips:
First time making a matcha smoothie? I've got some tips for you.
- Use Frozen Fruit: Frozen fruit like mango and pineapple gives the smoothie a creamy texture without needing ice cubes, which can water down the flavor.
- Matcha Quality: Use ceremonial-grade matcha for the best flavor. Culinary-grade matcha works, too, but has a more robust taste that can be slightly bitter. You want a smooth, rich taste of green tea leaves that creates a well-balanced umami flavor of a great matcha latte. Substitutions:
- Spinach: Use baby kale or fresh spinach if you don’t have frozen spinach on hand.
- Yogurt: Coconut cream also works instead of coconut yogurt if you’d like extra creaminess. Just opt for unsweetened.
Variations:
- Matcha Smoothie Bowl: Make this a matcha smoothie bowl by reducing the coconut milk for a thicker consistency. Top with chia seeds, hemp seeds, and fresh fruit.
- Add Protein: For a meal replacement or extra nutritional boost, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder—vanilla or unflavored works well here.
- Different Milk: Swap out coconut milk for almond, oat, or even soy milk for a different flavor profile. Each type of milk will bring its own unique texture and taste.
Equipment Needed:
- Blender: A high-speed blender works best to ensure all the ingredients are well blended and the smoothie is creamy.
- Glass or Bowl: For serving and depending on whether you want a smoothie or a smoothie bowl.
Storage:
This matcha green tea smoothie is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Give it a quick shake or blend before drinking.
Recipe FAQ's:
Matcha is finely ground green tea powder made from the whole green tea leaf, giving it a concentrated flavor and more nutrients than typical green tea or tea bags. I highly recommend Anima Mundi matcha powder.
Matcha contains caffeine, though in smaller amounts than coffee. If your child is sensitive to caffeine, try to avoid it or use a very small quantity.
Absolutely! Frozen blueberries or strawberries are great additions to boost flavor and nutrition.
