There are smoothies—and then there’s this Creamy Magic Mushroom Smoothie. It's thick, dreamy, decadent… and contains a boost of energy in each sip. This healthy smoothie combines an adaptogenic mushroom powder blend with sweet bananas, creamy plant-based milk, a dairy-free creamer, and a nutty chocolatey swirl to make your morning feel like dessert. If you've been looking for a better way to enjoy your medicinal mushrooms, this is a delicious, healthy way.
Note: I recommend products that I love, believe in, and use myself. But please always consult your health practitioner for medical advice about consuming immune-supporting ingredients and mushroom blends.

I always experiment with new ingredients that taste amazing and offer real benefits. And by now, you know that I love Anima Mundi products, whether to make my Chocolate Chaga Mushroom Pancakes or my Immunity Boosting Elderberry Smoothie. Why not make great food that is also boosted with essential nutrients like a high-quality mushroom powder or a coconut cream powder with trace minerals and naturally occurring plant-based fats and fiber?
Well, that's exactly what this magic mushroom smoothie is. It started as a “what if” and became my go-to favorite. I'm talking real functional mushrooms like reishi, lion’s mane, and Shiitake, to name a few, blended into a morning smoothie that comes with a heavenly nutty chocolate flavor and a great way to sneak in immune-supporting ingredients and healthy fats without thinking twice.
If you want to give these healthy Anima Mundi powders a try, then use code “NATURALVEGAN" to get 15% off. And I have plenty of recipes on the blog to use them up, or simply enrich your morning coffee lattes or afternoon green tea, or matcha.

Ingredients To Make This Healthy Smoothie:
Here's what you need to make this creamy magic mushroom smoothie.
- Frozen Bananas: It's going to give you that ultra-thick texture. Plus, they add natural sweetness, potassium, and vitamin C.
- Anima Mundi Coconut Powder: Packed with healthy fats and electrolytes, this single-ingredient powder gives a tropical creaminess that pairs perfectly with the banana base.
- Anima Mundi Adaptogenic Powder: This popular blend features organic, locally sourced mushroom extract powders paired with heirloom cacao for a decadent twist. It’s a rich, earthy addition to coffee, tea, smoothies, and nourishing recipes. It’s pure indulgence with a purpose, and one of my favorite adaptogenic powders!
- Vanilla Extract: Just a small amount of pure vanilla enhances the sweetness and adds depth.
- Plant-Based Milk: Use almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk. Each brings its own vibe, but all make this smoothie extra silky.
- Chocolate Hazelnut Butter: Adds indulgence and a hint of nutty richness. Use leftovers to make my Vegan Chocolate Hazelnut Brownies.
- Plant-Based Whipped Cream (Optional): For that dessert-in-a-glass finish. Not required… but highly recommended.
See the recipe card for quantities.
How To Make It:
It's one of those magic mushroom smoothies that is easy to make but looks like an expensive, luxurious drink, similar to my Easy and Delicious Matcha Smoothie.
- Prep The Glasses: Use a spoon to swirl chocolate hazelnut butter along the inside of two glasses.
- Blend the Smoothie: In a high-speed blender, blend all the ingredients until thick, smooth, and spoonable. Add a bit more milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.
- Assemble & Serve: Pour the smoothie into the decorated glasses. Top with more chocolate drizzle and a swirl of plant-based whipped cream (optional).
Top Tips:
It's a simple mushroom smoothie recipe, but even with minimal ingredients, I still have a few tips for you to make it the best from the start.
- Mushroom Powder: Use a high-quality mushroom powder that lists the type of mushroom and extraction method on the label—ideally, one with organic ingredients and locally grown. Avoid blends with added sweeteners or fillers. Trust me, I've tried so many different products and I always come back to Anima Mundi. I test and try so you don't have to, and I can honestly say that not all mushroom powders are equal. Another great way to incorporate this herbal supplement is in my Mushroom Ice Cream—a rich plant-based ice cream that simply tastes divine.
- Coconut Cream Powder: Don't skip it. Besides its nourishing ingredients, it really adds a satisfying richness that's hard to mimic with any other variations. You can even add some to my Iced Vanilla Rose Latte.
- Make a Smoothie Bowl: It's thick and luscious and rich enough to simply turn this into a delicious smoothie bowl. Serve it in my favorite coconut bowls and add your toppings of choice.
Variations And Substitutions:
I recommend trying the recipe as-is because the combo of frozen bananas, chocolate hazelnut flavors, and mushroom powder is a unique flavor that simply works. But it's such an easy recipe to make it your own. Here are a few suggestions.
- Swap Frozen Bananas: For a lower-sugar version, try frozen avocados or frozen berries.
- Swap Chocolate Hazelnut: If you really don't have it on hand, try regular peanut butter or other nut butters with chocolate toppings or some extra cacao powder. Just know that it will change the flavors.
- For a Nut-Free Version: I recommend using Sunflower seed butter or making my Healthy Banana Chocolate Smoothie.
- Make it Sweeter: Drizzle in some maple syrup if you prefer it a bit sweeter. But taste test first. The chocolate hazelnut butter and the frozen bananas make it plenty sweet to begin with.
Storage:
This smoothie is best enjoyed immediately. If you must store it, keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours in a sealed jar—but note the texture may thin. Freeze in popsicle molds for a dreamy afternoon treat.
Equipment Needed:
- High-Speed Blender: To turn the mushroom smoothie into a smooth, silky texture.
- Two Tall Glasses (clear for that main image effect): For serving the smoothies.
- Measuring Spoons & Cups
Recipe FAQs:
Functional mushrooms are packed with essential nutrients, B vitamins, and antioxidants that may help support cognitive function, balance the immune system, and reduce oxidative stress. It’s a delicious way to enjoy immune-supporting ingredients. Here is a quick guide to 8 Adaptogenic mushrooms. Always check with health care professionals for guidance, especially when incorporating medicinal mushrooms into your daily diet.
For most people, these mushrooms are safe in small, daily doses. But always consult a health practitioner, medical physicians, or a drug administration resource before starting any mushroom blend powders, especially if you have a medical condition.
You can prep the ingredients and keep them in the fridge, but for the thickest, creamiest texture, it’s best to blend and enjoy immediately. The smoothie may thin out if stored for too long.
Despite the mushroom species in the blend, this smoothie tastes nothing like mushrooms! It’s rich, chocolatey, banana-sweet, and super creamy—more like a chocolate smoothie than a veggie drink. The mushrooms are completely masked by the coconut and hazelnut flavors.
This is a great morning—try it with my Vegan Gluten-Free Protein Waffles—or pick-me-up drink. But with healthy fats, essential amino acids, and adaptogenic benefits, this smoothie can work as either a light meal or a satisfying snack, especially when paired with fresh fruit or toast.
Yes—try frozen mango or avocado for a lower-sugar version with a similarly thick texture. But note that it will change the flavors.
