This Homemade Vegan Acai Bowl recipe is the ultimate healthy summer treat! It's made with clean and simple ingredients and has the perfect creamy texture! This recipe makes a great healthy breakfast or summertime snack!
It's no secret that I absolutely love smoothie bowls. The creamy texture and variety of toppings will always be a favorite of mine. I love making unique smoothie bowls like my High-Protein Vegan Raspberry Smoothie Bowl or my Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie Bowl; however, you can never go wrong with a classic acai bowl like this one!

Vegan Acai Smoothie Bowl Ingredients:
This recipe for acai is great because it's super nutrient-dense and the ingredients are so simple! You can find them at Wilderness Poets and at your local grocery store.
Açai Bowl Ingredients:
- Frozen Bananas: The base of any açaí bowl recipe is frozen bananas. They are what will give you that perfect ice cream-like texture, and they sweeten it without any added sugar. Make sure to freeze ripe bananas for the best results. If you have a lot of frozen bananas in your freezer, you can also make recipes like my Healthy Chocolate Banana Smoothie or my Delicious Green Alkaline Smoothie.
- Frozen Blueberries: Any frozen fruit will work. I personally love using blueberries because they are full of antioxidants and fiber.
- Acai Powder: Acai berries are antioxidant-rich berries that grow on the acai palm tree in the Amazon rainforest. They've become quite popular in recent years and for good reason! There are plenty of ways to enjoy them. I like to use acai powder for this homemade acai bowl. Some recipes use frozen acai puree; however, I don't like using these because they are full of added sugar. Instead, I like to use Wilderness Poets freeze-dried acai powder.
- Plant-Based Milk: You will need the smallest touch of plant-based milk to get the acai bowl blending. Adding too much liquid is the number one reason people end up with runny acai bowls. Any nut milk, such as almond milk, coconut milk, or soy milk are great option.
- Coconut Water Powder: My secret ingredient to crafting the perfect homemade vegan acai bowl is adding a touch of coconut water powder. This adds natural sweetness as well as a variety of electrolytes!
Toppings:
- Granola: Any granola will work perfectly. I love using my Healthy Homemade Granola for an oil-free and refined sugar-free option, or this Peanut Butter Granola for the perfect nutty flavor.
- Pistachios: I love adding pistachios to just about everything. I get mine from Wilderness Poets because they are organic, and the quality is superior.
- Shredded Coconut: You can either use shredded coconut or coconut flakes; it's totally up to your personal preference.
- Fresh Fruit: I love adding a variety of fresh fruit to the top of this vegan acai bowl.

How To Make The Best Homemade Acai Bowl:
Making a homemade acai can be extremely easy and should not be intimidating at all. This smoothie bowl recipe could not be any easier!
- Add all açaí bowl ingredients to a high-speed blender.
- Start with a small splash of plant-based milk and add more as needed.
- Use a tamper to blend until thick and creamy.
- Scoop into a bowl and smooth out.
- Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Hint: Do not add any fresh ripe bananas to the frozen banana mixture. This will cause the mixture to become watery very quickly.
Substitutions
Here are some easy substitutions that can be made to this healthy acai bowl.
- Fresh Fruit: You can top this acai bowl with as many varieties of fresh fruit as you would like. Fresh berries and bananas are always great options.
- Unsweetened Frozen Acai Packs: You can use frozen acai packs if needed; however, I strongly advise against this because you will not end up with the same creamy texture.
- Toppings: Feel free to switch up the toppings however you'd like. Hemp seeds, chia seeds, cacao nibs, and goji berries are all great healthy toppings.
Variations:
You can play around with this recipe to create your own homemade acai bowls that fit your taste. Here are some of my favorite acai bowl variations:
- Chocolate Acai Bowl: Add a tablespoon of cacao powder and top this bowl with cacao nibs for the perfect rich chocolate twist.
- Peanut Butter And Jelly Acai Bowl: Add peanut butter and fresh strawberries to the top of the bowl for a delicious classic variation.
- High-Protein Acai Bowl: You can add a scoop of your favorite protein powder to make this a complete meal replacement.
Equipment:
Equipment can really impact how a recipe turns out, especially in smoothie bowl recipes like this vegan acai bowl.
- High-Speed Blender: If you love making smoothie bowls and plan on making them for a long time, I strongly encourage you to invest in a Vitamix. Other blenders will work. However, nothing works as well as a Vitamix.
- Serving Bowls: The way you serve a smoothie bowl truly makes a world of difference. I love these wooden bowls. You can use my code: "COCO-NV-10" for a discount on all your Coconut Bowls purchases.
You can find more of my go-to equipment on my shop page.
Storage:
It's easy to make too much of any smoothie bowl. The good news is you can actually freeze your smoothie bowls like this vegan acai bowl for later. I recommend freezing them in an airtight container to avoid freezer burn.
Whenever you are ready to enjoy the smoothie bowl, you can set out the container on the countertop for about 15 minutes and then enjoy. It won't have quite the same creamy texture, but it will still be delicious!
Top Tip:
Add the frozen bananas to the blender first. This will allow the mixture to blend quickly, which will result in a thicker smoothie bowl.
Recipe FAQs:
Although acai bowls are super healthy, I would not say they're the best for weight loss, especially if you add a lot of toppings. They're a little on the high-calorie side. However, they are great for weight maintenance. If you are happy with your weight, eat all the acai bowls you want!
The good news about acai is that it lives up to the hype. It's an antioxidant powerhouse, and it's full of fiber and healthy fats. It's a great addition to any diet.
